When HortiLogistica Africa chose Arusha as the home of Africa's premier fresh produce and logistics trade fair, the decision was grounded in geography, infrastructure, and momentum. Here are three reasons why Arusha is fast becoming the capital of African agri-logistics.
Arusha sits within driving distance of Tanzania's most productive agricultural regions — the Kilimanjaro foothills, the Arusha highlands, and the fertile Arumeru district. Combined with easy access to Kenya's Rift Valley, Rwanda's highlands, and Uganda's central plateau, Arusha effectively serves as a crossroads for the East African Community's entire fresh produce output.
Kilimanjaro International Airport has direct connections to Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Dubai, Amsterdam, and Doha — the primary transit points for African fresh produce exports. New cargo capacity expansions announced in 2025 will add dedicated perishables handling bays, reducing time-on-tarmac for temperature-sensitive exports by up to 40%.
Private sector cold storage investment in the greater Arusha region has more than doubled since 2023, driven by export demand from European and Middle Eastern retailers. New packhouse facilities, pre-cooling stations, and refrigerated transport fleets are reshaping the logistics landscape — making Arusha not just a place to grow produce, but a place to process, package, and ship it to the world.
